FREE TREES In response to the tornadoes that hit Oconee County in April 2020, The City of Seneca, Oconee County, the South Carolina Forestry Commission, Duke Energy,  TreesUpstate and the Arbor Day Foundation have partnered to giveaway another 650 free trees this fall.  A special thanks to the Arbor Day Foundation and the Community Tree Recovery Program!

  • 350 of the 650 trees are available for pre-reservation.  Those 350 trees are sold-out.
  • 150 of the 650 trees will be given away first come first served on Friday.
  • 150 of the 650 trees will be given away first come first served on Saturday.

  • Friday, October 8th, from 4pm to 6pm sharp
  • Saturday, October 9th, from 10am to 12pm sharp

Size | Species All of the trees are in 3-gallon containers.  Native species and their cultivars available while supplies last:

  • Pawpaw
  • American persimmon
  • Eastern redbud
  • Eastern redcedar
  • Bladcypress
  • Red Maple
  • Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica)
  • Swamp White Oak
  • Swamp Chestnut Oak
  • Nuttall Oak
  • Overcup Oak


Will they fit in my car?  Yes

Do I need a truck or trailer to pick them up? No

How many trees can we get? 2 per household

How big will they get at maturity?  Mature height and width vary by species.  Medium trees by definition are up to 50′ tall.  Large canopy trees are > 50′ tall.  If you do not have an overhead utility conflict, height is not applicable.  All of these trees are urban hardy.  

Does it matter where I live?  This tree giveaway is intended to help replace tree canopy lost in Seneca, Oconee County, and Pickens County.
